Athletes of the Week for 11-13
We wrap up our Fall Athletes of the Week for 2013-14 with the girls’ selections. We’ll probably get the winter ones started for you with another boys’ start to those the first week of December.

MOUNT SI – The Wildcats put themselves in prime position for a state tournament berth last Thursday with a thrilling five-set win over Bishop Blanchet in the SeaKing district tournament, and the efforts of junior Anna McCreadie were key. McCreadie had six kills, 35 assists and eight digs to aid Mount Si to the 12-25, 25-17, 25-17, 17-25, 15-7 win. While the Wildcats surprisingly did not make state after being swept in three straight matches this past Saturday (more later on that hopefully) by Metro Mountain Division foes, McCreadie proved to be a critical piece in the second half of the season and is expected to be the team’s top returner next fall. Look for her to be actively recruited by colleges this winter during the upcoming regional club schedule.
League champions! Mount Si volleyball on a win streak in postseason
The duo of Anna McCreadie and Lindsay Carr keep feeding off each other’s strengths.

Valley Record - 11.05.13

Last week, the junior-senior squad of outside hitter/setters led Mount Si to claim the league championship during tournament play at Juanita. Mount Si beat Mercer Island in the championship match, Saturday, Nov. 2 at Juanita. The Wildcats won in five sets, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12, with the whole team putting in work. McCreadie notched 16 kills, 19 assists, 15 digs and two blocks on the night. Carr, meanwhile, had 21 kills, 13 assists, five aces, 13 digs and a block. Carr, a co-MVP for the league, is heading next fall to Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on a volleyball scholarship. She’ll be doing indoor games in the fall and beach in the spring. READ ARTICLE

Ex-Mount Si volleyball fan favorite signs to continue college career with NAIA school in Idaho
The Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal has learned of major news concerning a former Mount Si High School volleyball player and fan favorite. Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, ID, this afternoon announced the signing of setter Robyn Schirmer, a 2010 MSHS graduate, to a letter of intent to continue her college volleyball career. Schirmer, who starred at Blue Mountain Community College in Oregon for two years following her graduation from Mount Si, took last year off to coach high school volleyball in the Seattle area.

Mount Si volleyball meets the Islanders
Mount Si’s volleyball teams traveled to Mercer Island last night, with mixed results.

Junior varsity clears big hurdle in quest for undefeated league season
Mount Si’s junior varsity team now finds itself just one win away from achieving history – an undefeated league season. The Wildcats took care of the Islanders 25-17, 25-23, 7-15 to move to 13-0 in Kingco play, 15-3 on the season, and balance again was the key. Sophie Click led the way for Mount Si with eight kills, 10 digs and two aces and Ellie Morris pitched in seven assists, seven digs, three kills and a block to pace the Wildcat efforts. Fabiola Reyes had 14 digs to aid Mount Si, and Brooke Covello contributed a good performance, with four kills and nine digs.

Islanders finish season sweep of Mount Si varsity

Mount Si’s varsity fell to the Islanders in three, 25-22, 25-13, 15-18. The MI tandem of Sarah Lindquist and Jemma Yeadon proved to be too much for the Wildcats, despite a good effort from their own Lindsay Carr, who had 11 kills, nine digs, eight assists and three aces to lead the way for scarlet and gray.
Anna McCreadie paced the Mount Si efforts with eight kills, nine digs, seven assists and an ace, while Jenn Rogers also had a good night, with nine digs and four assists.

Wildcat volleyball gets it done on Senior Night, locks up key spot in Kingco tournament  Posted on by Rhett Workman - Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal
Mount Si’s volleyball program closed out their home schedule last night with an emotional pregame ceremony honoring their three seniors, then the Wildcats continued to display the improved play that has been seen throughout the second half of the schedule. In the first meeting of the season against the Bellevue Wolverines, Mount Si outlasted Bellevue in five; last night, the Wildcats played very well in many facets of the game and took the match over the Wolverines in a three-set sweep. Scores were 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 as Mount Si locked up the all-important second seed to the Kingco tournament with the victory.

“I thought that we played pretty steady,” Mount Si coach Bonnie Foote said. “Finishing second in league is an awesome accomplishment. It gets us into postseason; it gives us an opportunity to get a little better, which is what we want to do.”

Mount Si volleyball scores key wins to start stretch run in league play
Mount Si High School’s volleyball team has all season been looking to find the right mix of talent to help them make it far into the postseason, and it appears that the hard work of coach Bonnie Foote in trying to make it all work is now beginning to pay dividends. The Wildcats once again tried a different lineup last night for their home game with Lake Washington, and Mount Si played very well in their new environs, scoring a decisive three-set sweep over the Kangs, 25-13, 25-13, 25-14. Foote was pleased with how things went. “We tried a new lineup tonight. We switched things around and I feel really good about it,” Foote said. “I’m excited about what’s to come now.“

It started off quick for Mount Si, as a pair of service aces by junior Anna McCreadie helped the Wildcats break out to an early 5-1 lead in the opening frame, then players such as senior Lindsay Carr and sophomore Haley Holmberg did the rest, with kills aplenty in that stanza the rest of the way to help Mount Si seal it. Holmberg liked how the new setup worked. “I think, all together, we worked well as a team,” Holmberg said. “It made it a lot easier with the communication for me to do my job.” Holmberg finished with 12 digs, two aces, two kills and two assists. McCreadie added 14 assists and six kills to pace the scarlet and gray cause.

Wildcat volleyball delivers against Saints, with varsity win being big for playoff chances by Rhett Workman Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal
Mount Si’s volleyball program scored a three-team sweep over the Interlake Saints last night at Interlake High School in Bellevue. Here’s a wrap-up on the three matches. Varsity avenges early-season loss to Saints with victory that strengthens postseason chances: Mount Si’s varsity went into IHS last night looking to rebound against the Saints, who had beaten the Wildcats earlier this season on MSHS’ home floor, and Mount Si did just that, helping their league standings considerably in the process. The Wildcats got it done in four, a 25-7, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21 victory that put Mount Si in a second-place tie with Bellevue at 7-2 in league, two games ahead of the Saints (5-4 league).

Mount Si volleyball opens second half of Kingco schedule with win over Juanita
Posted on October 8, 2013 by Rhett Workman

Mount Si’s varsity volleyball team opened the second half of the season last night on the right foot, grabbing a three-set sweep of the Juanita Rebels. Scores at Mount Si High School were 25-21, 25-12, 25-13 as the Wildcats earned the season sweep of the Rebels; Mount Si opened the Kingco schedule last month with a similarly dominating win over Juanita in Kirkland.

“I think tonight was an opportunity for us to work on some things that we’re making some changes on,” said Mount Si coach Bonnie Foote. ”We’re still searching in some areas, and we need to know what’s going to be best for us at a high level.”

The first set was a close one as the Wildcats did some work in those areas they are focusing on, such as passing and setting. Haley Holmberg had three kills in the frame, and nine total on the night along with eight digs, to help keep Mount Si in command throughout the frame despite Juanita’s best efforts, and she was pleased with her overall performance. “I just went out there and did my best,” Holmberg said. “I wasn’t in my normal position because we were switching up the lineup and I just went out there and did my job and did what I had to do on the court to win the game.” Her efforts, along with those of others, including senior star Lindsay Carr, helped to lock up that first set for Mount Si, a stanza which ended with a net violation by the Rebels resulting in a Wildcat set point. Mount Si volleyball faces off with Mercer Island, and gets mixed results
Mount Si’s volleyball team faced its toughest test of the season last night in Mercer Island, and the Wildcats continued to show some of the challenges of retooling, as the Islanders’ top two stars led the way to a rare three-set sweep.

Sophomore Jemma Yeadon and senior Sarah Lindquist combined for 34 kills as MI took care of business 25-17, 25-23, 25-18 at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie for the first three-set win over Mount Si in years. Islander coach Susan McKay praised her two top players. “They definitely did run the show,” McKay said. “They both hit really consistently tonight.” She added, “They both passed really well too.”
The opening set opened with both teams exchanging the lead early on, before MI took control with a pair of Yeadon kills midway through the frame. Despite the best efforts of Wildcat senior star Lindsay Carr, the Islanders were able to close things out. Back-to-back aces by Lindquist sealed up the frame, and it was made official with a Wildcat kill attempt going out of bounds on set point.
Five things to watch this high-school volleyball season

1. Can Mercer Island make another magical 3A run? The Islanders flirted with perfection last season, taking an unbeaten record into the state tournament. But the (bad) luck of the draw pit them against Prairie in the opening round and they wound up losing in five sets to the eventual champion. They ultimately settled for seventh place with a 24-1 overall record. Several key players return as MI eyes a more fitting end this year. READ ARTICLE

News from MSHS volleyball…
Mount Si’s volleyball program closed out the week last night at home with another three-team sweep, this time over the Sammamish Totems.

Varsity: Carr’s lead the way: For the second time in three games to start the season, last night’s Wildcat effort was largely about one family – the Carr’s. Senior Lindsay led the way with 14 kills, seven digs and a block, and her younger sister, freshman Courtney, aided the efforts with 19 assists, a kill, four digs and two aces, as the Wildcats needed a little extra to beat Sammamish in four, 25-21, 16-25, 25-12, 25-17. Mount Si was playing without the services of top junior Anna McCreadie, battling some injuries at the moment. Liz Larson paced the effort with 34 digs, a kill, an assist and three aces, as she appears to have firmed up her hold on the libero position this fall for the Wildcats. Haley Holmberg also had a nice game, with nine kills, eight digs and three aces.

Mount Si is at the Kent Classic Saturday.

Wildcat volleyball results against Interlake, 9-16
Mount Si’s volleyball program opened the home schedule last night against Interlake, with two wins and a surprising loss.

Varsity
Coming into this season, the evidence was clear that there could be some growing pains, especially as players get adjusted to this level of play. Last night’s result underscored that, as Mount Si fell for the first time in league against an opponent not named Mercer Island in quite awhile.

Interlake took the match in four, 25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-15, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort on the Wildcat end. Lindsay Carr led the way with 11 kills, six digs, three aces and a block and a half. Liz Larson had a huge game with 24 digs, and Jenn Rogers paced things with 13 digs of her own. Anna McCreadie recorded seven kills, eight assists and eight digs, and Haley Holmberg pitched in seven kills and eight digs.

Junior Varsity
The Mount Si JV’ers rallied from a first-set loss to win 22-25, 25-16, 15-13. Scout Turner led the way with eight assists, an ace and two digs, and Brooke Covello paced things with five kills, seven digs and two aces. Fabiola Reyes aided the efforts with 18 digs and an ace, and Elida Gilje was strong on service with eight aces.

“C” team
Ally Larsen led the way with seven assists, five aces and a dig, and Mount Si’s “C” squad scored a 25-13, 25-15, 15-8 win. Haley Huntzinger added five kills, an ace and two digs to pace the Wildcat efforts, which were also helped by the five aces and three digs of Allie Urbasich.

Class 4A, 3A and 2A state volleyball rankings - Week 1
Seattle Times High School Sports Blog - Posted by Sandy Ringer
September 9, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Class 3A
1. Southridge (Kennewick)
This should be experienced Suns’ best chance of rising to the top
2. Mount Si
Lindsay Carr could drive Wildcats to the championship match
3. Mercer Island
There’s plenty left in the tank after last year’s near-perfect run

Like last year, I see 3A being pretty wide open and am giving the nod to Southridge of Kennewick followed by a pair of KingCo teams, Mount Si and Mercer Island. You could almost flip a coin there (or throw a dart) and they should have some dynamite matches again this season. SEE ALL RANKINGS
Wildcat volleyball opens season on very strong note with all three teams rolling to wins over Juanita
Posted on September 12, 2013 by Rhett Workman

Mount Si’s volleyball program last night showed why they could be the best program from top to bottom in the entire KingCo 3A this fall, as all three teams scored dominating wins over the Juanita Rebels.

Varsity
It did not take long for the Wildcats to open the season on the right foot, as they blasted the Rebels in a three-set sweep 25-9, 25-10, 25-11. The Carr’s were the story, as senior Lindsay had six kills and four digs to lead the way, and her younger sister, freshman Courtney, made a case to be the setter for this Wildcat squad going forward, with 14 assists and two aces. Junior Anna McCreadie also had seven kills and seven assists along with four aces to pace Mount Si. Continue with JV and C-Team...
Strong as a team: Mount Si volleyball reloads with powerful hitters Posted Sep 11, 2013 at 12:46 PM - Seth Truscott - Snoqualmie Valley Record

Outside hitters Lindsay Carr and Anna McCreadie are bringing the power to the Mount Si volleyball court this fall. Carr, in particular, is set for a strong senior season. Committed to Division-1 Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles on a scholarship, she has also committed to becoming one of the physically strongest players in the nation. Lifting weights for two years, she can squat 405 pounds, hang-clean at 185, and does pull-ups wearing a 20-pound vest. Her attack jump is 10 feet and an inch.

All this power helps Carr as the team’s number-one outside hitter, followed by McCreadie, who is a junior, at number two. They rotate around the court and balance each other’s strengths. Both girls started in this game in eighth grade. They both play for the Sudden Impact club of Bellevue. Both girls train together, along with other athletes on the Mount Si team. “We two are looked up to as leaders,” says Carr. “We both want to set an example for everyone else to follow—not only play, but off the court.” READ MORE
