Lindsay Carr - Mount Si, OH, Jr. After setting a school record for kills as a sophomore, the 6-foot-2 Carr broke it twice this season, ultimately smashing 37 in one Sea-King 3A District match and finishing with 562 this season. Also a tough server (51 aces), she helped the Wildcats from Snoqualmie rise as high as No. 2 in the 3A state rankings. CONTINUE

Preview and pick for Mount Siís opening match at state volleyball tourney in Lacey
Now itís time to talk some volleyball, and this morning kicks off the WIAA 3A state volleyball tournament down at St. Martinís University. Weíll preview and pick Mount Siís first round match for you first, then let you know what we think of the rest of todayís action.

WIAA State 3A Volleyball Tournament, Lacey
Mount Si Wildcats vs. Glacier Peak Grizzlies, First Round
St. Martinís University, court 2, 9:45am first serve

Mount Si draws a solid foe in Glacier Peak, as we told you on Monday, see here. So with that all said, the key for the Wildcats will be getting the same level of play they saw from their key players at the district tournament AND also getting solid secondary contributions.
Wildcat volleyball barely misses bringing home SeaKing title, falling narrowly to Islanders in another five-set barnburner
Mount Siís volleyball team came oh, so close to bringing home a win against their league rivals Mercer Island last night for the SeaKing district title, but it ended up being a case of oh, so close yet so far as MI rallied from a deficit to outlast the Wildcats.

MI was down two sets to one before posting the five-set 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 16-14 victory at Seattleís Chief Sealth High School. Mount Si, who had punched their sixth straight state berth earlier yesterday with a win over Lakeside, takes the second seed from the SeaKing District into next weekendís WIAA 3A state tournament in Lacey and should get a favorable draw to open the event, which starts Friday.
Scores for the MSHS volleyball team from Saturday night's match versus Mercer Island.

Weíll have the football for you shortly this morning, and it was quite the record-setting night for Mount Si in their playoff win over Auburn Mountainview. First, though, itís time to talk some volleyball. First, previews and picks of Mount Siís action at the SeaKing District tournament, then weíll give your our thoughts on the rest of the board today and some directions for you if you want to go and watch the action today at Chief Sealth High School.

With that housekeeping out of the way, itís time to preview and pick Mount Si and Lakeside in the semis as the Wildcats look to make it six straight to state.

MOUNT SI WILDCATS VS. LAKESIDE LIONS
CHIEF SEALTH HIGH SCHOOL, SEATTLE, 11 AM FIRST SERVE

Wildcat volleyball back on course for sixth straight state trip thanks to solid play, and a little help, 11-1
Oh, what a difference one night can make. Going into last nightís opening rounds of the SeaKing District volleyball tournament at Seattleís Chief Sealth High School, the Mount Si Wildcats were teetering on the brink of their season coming to an end, and with it their five-year string of state tournament appearances. After two wins and an upset in another match, though, the Wildcats woke up this morning in a proverbial ďcatbirdísĒ seat in its quest for their sixth straight ticket to state.

Mount Si defeated both Ingraham and Eastside Catholic, then got even better news as top Metro foe Seattle Prep was defeated in another match, so the Wildcats go into tomorrowís semifinals well-positioned for more success.
Scores for the MSHS volleyball team from Thursday night's match versus Eastside Catholic.

Wildcat volleyballís state tournament dreams on the brink after a third loss to MI, 10-27
Mount Siís volleyball team for the third time this season last night took on Mercer Island, this time for the KingCo Tournament championship at Sammamish High School. But the old adage of ďthe third try is the charmĒ didnít come through for the Wildcats, and now they face an early end to their season as a result.
The Islanders stormed out to a 2-0 set lead and won the match in four, 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, the first time this season MI beat Mount Si in less than the full five sets; the previous two meetings went the full five. Lyndsay Carr led the way for the Wildcats with 21 kills, Lauren Smith added 33 assists and Gen Knoppi paced things with 24 digs to aid Mount Si. Anna McCreadie also had a solid night, with 14 kills.
Wildcat varsity delivers against Interlake to open postseason, while JV, C teams close seasons, 10-25
Mount Siís volleyball team rallied from an early hole to score their first win of the postseason last night, beating Interlake in the first round of the Kingco Tournament at Sammamish High School.

A huge night from senior Lexie Read, who had 18 kills and 11 digs, propelled the Wildcats to a 17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 victory over a Saints team who had beaten Juanita to advance to this match and themselves are looking to make it to their second straight state tournament; Mount Si is looking to make it to state for the sixth straight time.

Wildcat volleyball celebrates Senior Night with win Tuesday, and postseason begins tonight
Mount Siís volleyball team closed out the season on a strong note Tuesday night, scoring one last victory to head into the KingCo Tournament.

The Wildcats outlasted a very strong Liberty team in three, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16 on the teamís Senior Night. Six seniors Ė Gen Knoppi, Taylor Herro, Lauren Smith, Rachel Hayford, Lexie Read and Andrea Suttle Ė were recognized prior to the contest, then Mount Si went out and got it done against a very scrappy Liberty group, whose play earned the praise of Wildcat interim head coach Dave Bachman, who was filling in for Bonnie Foote, who was home under the weather.

Mercer Island ends the title reign of Wildcats in volleyball, 10-18
Last Thursdayís Mount Si volleyball match with Mercer Island, with a potential share of the KingCo crown on the line, was expected to be a closely fought barnburner, as these two teams played the full five sets the last time they met back in September with the Islanders ekeing out a close win. And thatís what took place. Both teams gave it their best shots all night long. For two hours and in front of a large crowd, both of these groups of girls left everything they had out on the floor, but when all was said and done, Mount Siís era of league title dominance was over, and a large reason for that was a freshman from MI who showed she could become the force of this conference very, very quickly, making the Wildcatsí return in the future to the top potentially very challenging.

Previews and picks on the matches shortly, but first a comment about the success of both the Wildcats and Red Wolves this season, and what this means for local youth girlsí volleyball.

Mount Si volleyball opens busy week with sweep of Saints, and newcomerís efforts are critical, 10-15
Mount Siís volleyball team opened up a busy week last night hosting the Interlake Saints, and for the Wildcats, these last few matches going into the postseason are as much about the team continuing to improve as it is about Mount Si seeing if they have any players within the lower levels of the program, those being the junior varsity and ďCĒ teams, who might be able to contribute something valuable to a potential postseason run. And last night, they may have found that impact call-up.

Wildcat Varsity Volleyball rolls against Totems, 10-9
Wildcat JV, ďCĒ score wins over Totems
Mount Siís volleyball team returned home Tuesday night to host the Sammamish Totems, and it was expected to be a short match, with Sammamish struggling at the bottom of the league standings. Thanks to a balanced effort, that was exactly what took place.

The Wildcats were led by six kills, three aces and five digs from Anna McCreadie as they posted a 25-6, 25-12, 25-16 win over the Totems. Senior captain Lauren Smith, who had five aces and 13 assists, liked what she saw. ďIt was a good game for us to work on things,Ē Smith said. ďI think we did work on a few things. We ran our middles well, we executed our outside plays well and we actually passed really well too and played good defense.Ē

Mount Si volleyball beats Bellevue
Mount Siís volleyball team rebounded from their tough contest last Tuesday against Lake Washington and scored a win Thursday night over Bellevue. Lyndsay Carr had 12 kills, Gen Knoppi had 21 digs and Lauren Smith added 22 assists as the Wildcats took a 25-13, 25-16, 25-21 sweep.

ďI thought we were pretty even keel, I thought we were pretty consistent,Ē said Mount Si coach Bonnie Foote, as Mount Si remained unbeaten.
The Wildcats broke out early in the first set and did not look back, and sealed the frame with a Wolverine kill attempt going out of bounds on game point. Mount Si continued to put the pressure on in the middle frame, with that set being sealed by one of the eight kills of sophomore Anna McCreadie. If you read our game story from Tuesday, you know that Foote is looking to see more out of McCreadie, and the Wildcat player is committed to improving her game. ďIíve been working hard on my swing, trying to fix it and I still have a long ways to go, but Iím just getting better every day,Ē McCreadie said.

Mount Si volleyball survives scare against LW, 9-18
The Mount Si Wildcats volleyball team has had their challenges over the years with teams around KingCo 3A. Their rivalry with Mercer Island is well-known, but another team that has given the Wildcats fits at times is Lake Washington, and last night, they again made life a little difficult for Mount Si. But a 14-0 run to close out the match helped the Wildcats escape what could have been a major early season upset. And a record performance from their star was key.

VARSITY HOME OPENER vs JUANITA
GAME TIME 7:00PM - MSHS GYM
BY: RHETT WORKMAN - SNOQUALMIE VALLEY SPORTS JOURNAL

Mount Si volleyballís home opener is tonight at 7:00, and they face perhaps the team most people around the league will be paying the most attention to this fall in Juanita. The Rebels, as many of you will remember, had a tough season last year, and made a coaching change in the offseason, hiring experienced volleyball coach Jeff Curtis, the former coach at Archbishop Murphy, to take over for Teena Bambolo, who was let go prior to Mount Siís match against the Rebels at JHS last September. It will be interesting to follow this team throughout the season, and considering the Wildcats are somewhat of a new-look team this fall, this could be a good bellwether to see where things stand for Bonnie Foote and her program to start 2012. Foote is excited about the growth. ďI think weíre still on the upswing. I think weíre still getting better and I think with the volleyball club in our Valley, more kids are becoming attracted to the game. I think the game is growing itself,Ē Foote said. A total of 65 kids turned out, a program record.

Previewing and picking day two of state volleyball
Posted by Rhett Workman on November 12, 2011 SVSJ

Time again to talk volleyball. First, last night, Mount Si fell in the quarterfinals of the WIAA state 3A volleyball tournament in Lacey to Mount Spokane in four, 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15. No stats yet from Mount Si, so weíll just mention they play in a little bit against Camas in a loser-out game. With that, hereís our picks for todayís final day of the state tournament, at St. Martinís University.

MOUNT SI vs. Camas Ė The last time these two teams met at state, in 2009, the contest started way late in the evening and was not done until well after midnight, and it was quite the barnburner, too, with the Wildcats winning in five in a contest whose time frame called into question how well the WIAA was doing in accommodating two state tournaments on just four courts in the Tri-Cities. Well, after two very tough matches yesterday, and with an early wake-up call today, the Wildcats will have to battle some fatigue if they want a chance at another trophy. If they can get the tired out of their eyes and play at their top level, they should be fine. Weíre not so sure, however, they can do that, especially if they stayed up last night to listen to the football game (even though that ended at a relatively reasonable hour, just after 9:00).

Mount Siís volleyball team knew that their first round game this morning against the Meadowdale Mavericks at the WIAA 3A state tournament at St. Martinís University in Lacey was not going to be easy. Time now to talk state volleyball. Mount Si is waking up bright and early this morning down in Lacey, as they get ready to start their fifth straight state tournament. Leading it off: the Meadowdale Mavericks.

Mount Si and Meadowdale have never met at state, and in fact this is the second time during this current five-year run that the Wildcats have opened with an opponent not from the West Central or Southwest Districts. The Mavericks, out of Wesco, come in highly-ranked and with a strong record. We gave you a peek at them earlier this week; you can see that here. READ ARTICLE

Wildcat football and volleyball punch state berths after huge victories

Big night for Mount Si last night as two teams punched state berths.

Wildcat volleyball blasts their way to state for fifth straight year
If there was any question about how Mount Siís volleyball team would respond emotionally after their tough quarterfinal loss to Bainbridge Thursday night in the SeaKing District Tournament at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, those questions were answered quickly yesterday. A sleeping giant had awoke, and that giant is now headed to state.

Mount Si scored wins over Liberty, Holy Names and Mercer Island, all in dominating fashion at SHS, to punch the SeaKingís #3 berth, the Wildcatsí fifth straight state entry.

The Wildcats opened with a 25-17, 20-25, 25-15, 25-13 rout of the Patriots. Lyndsay Carr led the way with 19 kills and Lauren Smith added a staggering 41 assists as Mount Si moved into a winner-to-state game against Holy Names, a matchup we told you yesterday was going to be tough. Sarah McDonald had other ideas, though. 23 kills and 11 digs from the star senior propelled the Wildcats to a 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 thrashing of the Cougars which locked up the state berth. Rachel Hayford added 14 digs. Smith delivered another 38 assists, along with 16 digs.

Wildcat volleyballís run to state hits bump in road at hands of Bainbridge, 11-3 Posted by Rhett Workman on November 4, 2011 - SVSJ

EDITORíS NOTE: We have a commentary about this match coming up, talking about why fans shouldnít worry about the teamís state chances despite the defeat.

Mount Siís girls volleyball teamís drive to state ran into a bump in the road last night, as they fell to a very good Bainbridge team in the opening game of the SeaKing District Tournament at Sammamish High School in Bellevue.

SVSJ commentary: Wildcat volleyball may have lost district opener, but donít worry, folks, this team still has strong chance to make state
Posted by Rhett Workman on November 4, 2011 - SVSJ

Last nightís loss by Mount Siís volleyball team, while it certainly may be disappointing to the team and its fans, really doesnít mean much in the larger scheme of things. Our message to fans is simple: Keep the faith.

The Wildcats ran into a pretty strong Bainbridge team, who beat Mount Si in a three-game sweep. While we are ourselves sad about the Wildcats losing, we would also add we are not surprised. Not because of anything concerning Mount Si, who has improved mightily over the last couple of weeks, but moreso because of how good this Spartan team very much is.

Time to talk some volleyball. Mount Si is within two wins of punching its fifth straight state berth, a streak unmatched in school history for this program. The Wildcats look to get win one tonight in the quarterfinals of the SeaKing District Tournament.

The Wildcats from the looks of it appear to have drawn the toughest quarterfinal matchup. Even though Mount Si won the KingCo Tournament last Saturday over Mercer Island to earn the leagueís #1 slot to districts, thanks to how the Metro tournament fared, the Wildcats will end up with the winner of a game pitting two mid-range teams from the leagueís tougher division, the Mountain Division. Two teams that in past years have been very strong foes, and Bainbridge this year is back in that arena, currently with a 10-6 mark on the season.

Wildcat volleyball makes it two-for-two against arch-rivals and sweeps KingCo regular season and tourney titles as result, 10-29

Monday, the Mount Si volleyball team scored a KingCo regular season crown by beating their arch-rivals from Mercer Island. Last night, the Wildcats were looking to take the KingCo Tournament crown by beating the Islanders again, and thanks to the efforts once again of their top players, Mount Si made it two-for-two.

The Wildcats scored a 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17 win over MI at Sammamish High School in Bellevue to win the tourney and the #1 seed from KingCo into the SeaKing District Tournament. Mount Si will meet either Bainbridge or Blanchet from the Metro League in the SeaKing quarterfinals Thursday night at Sammamish. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Junior Libero Rachel Hayford led the way with 14 digs to pace Mount Siís 25-13, 25-15, 25-15 sweep of Lake Washington at Sammamish High School in Bellevue. The Kangs advanced to last nightís contest with a four-set win over Bellevue.

Sarah McDonald added 13 kills and nine digs, while Lyndsay Carr pounded out 11 kills of her own to aid the Wildcat efforts. Lauren Smith also recorded 14 assists and five service aces.

The Wildcats will meet the winner of the 4/5 game between the Kangs and Wolverines. Both of those teams look to be worthy opponents, considering how well they played the Wildcats at Mount Si this season, so either way, this will potentially be a tough game, especially if Mount Si starts out slow. But as we noted in our KingCo tournament preview yesterday, the Wildcats have some big players that they can rely on for strong efforts. Such as senior Sarah McDonald (24 kills Monday in Wildcat win over MI), junior Lauren Smith and sophomore Lyndsay Carr.

Mount Si volleyball plays its best at right time
Locks up KingCo Title, 10-24
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 25, 2011 - SVSJ

Mount Siís volleyball team is playing its best volleyball at the right time, going into postseason. Last night, they showed that, and in doing so, brought home another KingCo championship.

In front of a very large crowd for Senior Night, the Wildcats took care of the Mercer Island Islanders in three sets, 25-23, 25-9, 25-23. Mount Si finished the regular season with a 13-1 league record, two games ahead of MI, who finished at 11-3. Had the Islanders won last night, both the Wildcats and MI would have finished tied atop the standings, but the Islanders would have won the title on basis of head-to-head meetings. MI had already beaten the Wildcats once this season.

Historic performance helps Mount Si volleyball rally from huge hole to stun Interlake, 10-17-11
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 18, 2011 - SVSJ

History was made last night by a Mount Si volleyball player, and that historic accomplishment helped the Wildcats rally from down two sets to stun a very dangerous Interlake Saints team.

Sarah McDonald recorded 33 kills as Mount Si won 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 15-9. The 33 kills set a new school record for most kills in a match, previously set in 2008 during two games at the state tournament by then-Wildcat player Miranda Pratt, who is now playing collegiately at Texas A&M International. In each of those two games, Pratt pocketed 31 kills.

Talking playoffs, Mount Si style...
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 18, 2011 SVSJ

Weíre getting now into the stretch drive of the fall sports season and with that, itís time to talk postseason possibilities. Hereís how things shake down for all the Mount Si fall sports teams at the moment.

Mount Si is on track to make the postseason once again. Wildcat coach Bonnie Foote has taken her teams to districts at least for the last eight years in a row, although we could be off by a year or two on that. Mount Si, depending on what happens with their remaining games, should finish either first or second in KingCo, earning them an automatic district berth.

Wildcat volleyball grabs key win against Juanita, 10-12
Posted by Rhett Workman on October 14, 2011 SVSJ

Mount Siís volleyball team played maybe its best match of the season Wednesday night, and things appear to be looking up for this young Wildcat squad.

The Wildcats beat a steadily improving Juanita team 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 in a very well-played match by both sides at Mount Si High School. The Rebels showed that they are still dangerous despite some early-season distractions which threatened to derail their season, but Mount Si also showed the form that they will need to go far this postseason.

Wildcat volleyball overcomes challenge from Lake Washington to score victory Posted by Rhett Workman on October 11, 2011 SVSJ

The KingCo schedule has been an interesting one for Mount Siís volleyball team. Even though the Wildcats are tied for first, they have had some growing pains along the way as they continue to re-tool with younger players. Mount Si battled through a little bit of that last night, but still got it done when it counted.

The Wildcats rallied after a slow start and fought through some adversity to take the 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 win over a very scrappy Lake Washington Kangaroos squad which gave the Mount Si ladies a lot of problems all match long, with solid defense and strong serving. Wildcat coach Bonnie Foote, though, had a bit different take." I think we gave ourselves fits,Ē an unhappy Foote said. ďMy expectation is when you step on that court, you transfer what you did in practice on(to) that court and you show off what you work on in practice every single day, and I did not see that tonight.Ē

Some high-school volleyball highlights from Tuesday
Posted by Sandy Ringer - Seattle Times Sports Writer 10.11.11

There were some very interesting volleyball matches played Tuesday night (including at least one upset). Interlake 3, Mercer Island 1

This is the upset I alluded to earlier. Interlake is having a fine season and should do well in 2A post-season play. But Mercer Island was ranked No. 7 in 3A, despite last week's 3-2 loss to Juanita. The Islanders beat Interlake 3-0 about a month ago. This time, the Saints got outstanding performances from Kori Maitlen (13 kills, 18 digs, 8 aces), Alyssa Deardorff (35 assists) and Lauren Davis (29 digs).

I e-mailed Mercer Island coach Susan McKay about the loss, and she replied that she didn't want to make excuses but that injuries are hurting the team right now (middle blocker Lottie MacAulay is sidelined indefinitely with a back issue and Madelyn Bloom is done for the season with a knee injury). McKay also acknowledged that the Islanders made way too many mental errors for the second match in a row. MI was led by Sara Lindquist (14 kills), Lorial Yeadon (13 kills, 12 digs), Rachel Bowdle (17 digs) and Carly Wilson (36 assists). This was a great win for the Saints as they gear up for post-season play.

More on Mount Siís volleyball victory over Juanita Monday
By: Rhett Workman - SVSJ

As we told you yesterday, the Wildcats went on the road and scored a key league win over the Rebels Monday night in three sets. Well, there appears to be a back story developing about this contest, and itís a very troubling one in our view.

Sandy Ringer, who covers high school sports for the Seattle Times, reported on the Timesí high school sports blog yesterday that the Rebels played the match under an interim coach after longtime head coach Teena Bambolo was surprisingly shown the door just prior to the contest. According to Ringerís item, Bambolo was given the news during a hastily-called, and reported to be very short, meeting between her and school administrators. READ ARTICLE

Wildcat volleyball has tough time with out-of-state teams at Kent tournament, 9-17-11
Posted by Rhett Workman on September 19, 2011 SVSJ

Mount Siís volleyball team found life to be a little challenging last Saturday at the Kent Classic volleyball tournament. Against out of state opponents, that is.

The Wildcats went 0-3 against non-Washington foes in the event, and those struggles helped to push Mount Si into the bronze bracket, where they scored wins over Kentridge and Camas to take 11th place overall in the event out of 30 teams entered.

Mount Si volleyball taking on top teams today 09.17.11
By: Rhett Workman - Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal

The Wildcats are playing in the Kent Classic, which started a short time ago and will run all day at Kentwood High School in Covington. The Kent Classic tournament has been a favorite of Mount Si coach Bonnie Foote, as she has taken Wildcat teams to this event in the past. This tournament, one of several Saturday tournaments during the high school season, will pit the Wildcats against teams from all over western Washington, including top teams such as Eastside Catholic, Skyline, Issaquah and Kentwood, although the event this year has also drawn teams from Oregon and Idaho. In fact, Mount Si in pool play this morning is scheduled to play Central Catholic from Portland. More information is available by logging on to the
tournament website.

Step up time: Young Mount Si volleyball team chasing state tradition
By SETH TRUSCOTT - Snoqualmie Valley Record Editor - Sep 13 2011

It's going to take a lot of hard work to earn that fourth state appearance. That's why Sarah McDonald comes to the gym every day, ready to compete. McDonald, one of three seniors on the Mount Si varsity volleyball team, knows she has a younger team compared to the groups that took sixth at state in 2009 and 2010. "But everyone's going to step up," she said. McDonald, who shared outside hitting duties last fall, brings the kills. She's backed up by senior Brooke Bonner at Libero. Third senior Krista Galloway, a relative newcomer to the program who started on varsity last year, is a mid-blocker. All three  upper class women are hungry for state. READ ARTICLE

Wildcat volleyball makes it through rough patches to sink Sammamish
Posted by Rhett Workman on September 13, 2011 SVSJ

Mount Siís volleyball team had some bumps in the road once again last night as they hosted the Sammamish Totems, but those mistakes did not hurt the Wildcats, as they, thanks to some strong serving from several players, including Sarah McDonald, made short work of the Kingcoís cellar-dwellers. Scores were 25-7, 25-16, 25-9. READ ARTICLE

SVSJ preview: Mount Si volleyball a little greener than in past years, but core players look to guide team to fifth straight state appearance
Posted by Rhett Workman on September 4, 2011 Snoqualmie Valley Sport Journal

Mount Siís volleyball program has enjoyed a stellar run of success, with four straight state tournament appearances, and last year, finishing sixth. This year, though, could bring a little bit of a challenge to the table, as the team has a lot of new blood. But, the core of the team aims to pilot this group once again back to state.

The Wildcats have back for her 12th season at the helm coach Bonnie Foote. Foote is excited about what lies ahead. ďIím excited. We are really, really young and inexperienced in a lot of areas, but I think that some of our returning players have raised the bar in our practice and the rest of them, the inexperienced ones, are coming along because of that,Ē Foote said.

Wildcat volleyball doesnít make it easy on themselves, but get season-opening match sweep of Patriots
Posted by Rhett Workman on September 9, 2011 SVSJ

Mount Siís volleyball team, as noted in the Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journalís recent preview, is a little ďgreenerĒ than in past years, with a lot of young newcomers taking over slots left by graduated seniors who made up a lot of the core group of players that has helped this program roll off four straight state tournament appearances.
